We will employ high-school mathematics and physics to study climate. From the energy conservation law, it follows that in the equilibrium state the energy outgoing from Earth must be equal to the energy incoming from Sun. We will discuss the energy balance of Earth, derive the corresponding equations, and estimate the average temperature of the Earth's surface. We will study the influence of the greenhouse effect on this temperature and briefly discuss more sophisticated climate models.
